Punishment for dumping wastes in Imo state, Nigeria

Image
Haha, isn’t that the JOKE of Nigeria’s 2016 Independence month. Nigeria’s Vanguard newspaper published that the Imo state government confirmed abandoning the heap of decomposing municipal solid wastes along Douglas road, Owerri. It was asserted as a sort of PUNISHMENT for indigenes of the city especially the ones that rebelled against the relocation of the market by the present administration. While I find that preposterous, I believe that the bearer of such news should hide his/ her face in shame. It was specified that the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, CPS, poured forth a string of invectives on the indigenes and leaders of Owerri municipal, among which he said that “Owerri people must be made to understand that they cannot eat their cake and have it.” He furthered clarified that the heap of wastes were uncollected because of a restraining court order from tampering with the market. I’m a bit confused here, so tampering with the market requires adequately collectin...

A LONG TIME OF LESS FRESH AIR

Air, in my opinion is the most important substance for survival best known to man. Actually, air is interdependent on land and water, the basic components of the environment. Air is an invisible gaseous mixture of oxygen and nitrogen surrounding the earth. And it might be in danger. Technically, a colleague of oxygen and nitrogen called carbon dioxide is angry. Carbon dioxide is absorbed by plant during photosynthesis and released by humans during respiration. Kinda cool. But clever environmentalists, the scientists, the ones that are actually in the labs and plotting graphs are saying carbon dioxide has become erratic. According to a Climate Central report, a historic event occurred in September 2016 and will be long remembered as the time atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) refused to drop when it should be at its lowest point. Presently, atmospheric CO2 is above 400 parts per million. Scientifically, a low point means the transition from summer to fall season is on, whereby vegetatio...
