Punishment for dumping wastes in Imo state, Nigeria
Haha, isn’t that the JOKE of Nigeria’s 2016 Independence month.
Nigeria’s Vanguard newspaper published that the Imo state government confirmed abandoning the heap of decomposing municipal solid wastes along Douglas road, Owerri. It was asserted as a sort of PUNISHMENT for indigenes of the city especially the ones that rebelled against the relocation of the market by the present administration. While I find that preposterous, I believe that the bearer of such news should hide his/ her face in shame.
It was specified that the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, CPS, poured forth a string of invectives on the indigenes and leaders of Owerri municipal, among which he said that “Owerri people must be made to understand that they cannot eat their cake and have it.” He furthered clarified that the heap of wastes were uncollected because of a restraining court order from tampering with the market.
I’m a bit confused here, so tampering with the market requires adequately collecting and disposing municipal solid wastes in order to maintain public health? Or aren’t any government or court officials residents of Owerri municipal who will directly or indirectly be impacted by the dump. Wow! This is really the JOKE OF NIGERIA’S 2016 INDEPENDENCE MONTH IN THE SOUTH EAST!!! Someone clearly needs to have a refresher course on Environmental laws and be reminded of TORT LAW. Why would a multitude of people suffer for the wrong habits of a few? I don’t understand the justification of the Imo state government’s rage. Oh, I forgot, the Governor's CPS perceived some form of hatred from indigenes of Owerri municipal and I guess the feeling is mutual, hence, why municipal solid wastes are dumped illegally.
One good deed of Ex Imo Governor, Ikedi Ohakim’s administration was ensuring Owerri achieved and maintained the strides of the cleanest city in Nigeria. The reverse is the case, presently and obviously. Instead of focusing on ensuring that the environment is clean and safe to live in for the governed, the leadership of the state in 2019 is being talked about. What’s wrong with Nigerian Politics?
I also read that there might be a successor. I’m confused again. As in, Imo state system of government isn’t democratic anymore or I didn’t get the memo that a Monarchy or Democratic Republic system of government is being practiced. Interesting. I also noticed the shift in conversation from PUNISHING INDIGENES TO SUCCESSOR TO BOOK LAUNCH TO SYCOPHANTS.
'Uche ndi a onakwa ya', meaning, in an elaborate sentence, 'I totally don’t understand how some people would have such Penury of the Mind'.
MISPLACED PRIORITIES!
